ray & siv

Lovebirds - the perfect word to describe Ray and Siv. They are loving, affectionate and sugar dripping sweet =)

This wasn't an e-session as they are not engaged yet but my crystal ball tells me that in time this will surely happen. Siv told Ray to treat this as a pre engagement session. He smiled to this. No objection whatsoever =)

I had imagined a beach shoot with lovely warm sunny setting. Then I remembered to look out the window. It was another cloudy day and there was no sun in sight. It started to rain. Great. There goes my beach shoot. My sister suggested an indoor shoot at a cafe. But but but...I had my heart set on the beach! Moments before they arrived to pick me up. The rain stopped *phew*. No sun but the light was great and I still wanted the beach. Not fazed by the weather, Ray and Siv agreed to go to Coogee.

In the car, the three of us talked about the photo session and Siv requested some shots of Ray's muscly arms (which seems to have grown since the last time I saw him) and I jokingly suggested shots of Ray wearing unbuttoned shirt and bearing his chest. She got very excited about this and he didn't really protest. I thought this was awesome as they were up for anything!

I hadn't been to Coogee for a while and was pleasantly surprised at what a good spot it is. We started at the cliff top walk. I pointed to the weedy grass area and marked our first location.

Now how about you guys roll around in the grass a bit?

This romantic vintage photo above is one of my favourite from this set. BTW it was windy and freezing cold even though you can't tell from the above shots. I had a jumper and I really felt it so imagine how much she put up with!

Here's another one of my fav. Spotted these pretty white flowers growing in clumps. Looks great with Siv =)

Time to get off the grass. I moved Siv and Ray towards the edge of the cliff for a change of scenery.

I just couldn't resist some more of Ray and Siv in the grass.

Now we were absolutely done with the grass stuff. Here are some more pics around Coogee Beach area.

Ray and Siv, I had an awesome time with both of you. You said you'd be happy with a nice photo or two well I think I managed a few more than that (there are loads more unprocessed!). Too bad the weather was way cold and we couldn't do any water shots or bare chest ones for that matter! You got plenty of time to work on those pecs now =p

Hi, I saw your blog via flickr, so thought I'd check it out! Love your photos!! They are so bright and colourful and sharp! I am new to photography and just getting started--I shot my first wedding (as a guest) this past weekend and am overall happy with the results, but would like to improve the quality of my low light shots and moving subjects!

Anyways, thanks for sharing, I'd like to link this blog to mine so I can check in from time to time.

Sorry this is so long-may I ask, how did you get your blog template big enough to accomodate larger photos? Mine always cuts my pics off, even reduced sizes and I end up only being able to put smaller pics--the size you have would be ideal! Did you have to format that yourself? If so, what does it require me to do?

Thanks again, if you'd like you can reply to my blog via the comment box (09 May 2008 10:21)

fiona & polly

A couple of weeks ago I did a photo shoot for Fiona and Polly. I had so much fun doing it and I think they enjoyed it too. The weather was CRAZY that day. All seasons in one day kinda thing.

I went to their massive massive house. Did I mention that it's massive? I'd love to go back and shoot inside the house next time. The girls were still getting ready when I arrived.

By the time we got to the first location, the sun was right above our heads. It was getting really hot and then just as when we thought we'd go somewhere cooler. The clouds came over! That was within a few minutes! Quick! Let's get back out get some shots. BTW I haven't even finished processing this set. There are just way too many photos!

I wanted to do some more shots on the tennis court but I started to fell little droplets of water falling on me. We quickly got in the car and as soon as the doors were slammed shut, the rain was pouring down.

We headed to Woolwich Pier Hotel to get away from the rain and have some lunch. The food was fantastic. What's even more fantastic is the light coming through from the window.

Thought I'll try a soft focus look on this one. Not sure if it worked though. Eric, the drama queen, reckons his eyes struggled to focus =p

Conveniently, after we were done feeding our hungry guts, the rain stopped. Last location for the day was St Peter Chanel (? I'll have to check with Fi if I've got the right place here).

Going for the vintage feel for post processing here.

This is one of my fav.

I really love this last one as it shows the different personalities of the two girls. Fiona is very cutesy and playful while Polly is a little more reserved and shy.

Girls, it was a lot of fun. Looking forward to another shoot with you guys again =)

photo retouching

"THREE BOOKS HAVE ARRIVED!!!" - my email screamed at me. The books Eric ordered for my b'day finally arrived:
  1. Skin: The Complete Guide to Digitally Lighting, Photographing and
    Retouching Faces and Bodies
  2. Commercial Photoshop Retouching: In The Studio
  3. Digital Retouching and Compositing: Photographers' Guide (Power!)
Ok I didn't need all three and I doubt I'll get through them all but buying from Amazon is quite cheap so why not?

I am pretty interested in photo retouching and I'm not talking about colour boosting a landscape or softening "pockets" (what I use to call baggy eyes, a.k.a panda eyes) in my portraits etc. I'm talking commercial type photo retouching for magazines and advertisements.

My interest sparked when I was looking for a job and Judith Caingat (site under construction at the moment) advertised a free training program.
I checked out her work and thought they were fantastic. She also won a lot of awards. I unfortunately couldn't take it up as the hours were not flexible for me (then again who's to know if she would've hired me in the first place). I really would've loved to be trained by such a talented person but oh well...I got the books instead to play around with.

I also watch a lot of ANTM (that's America's Next Top Model) and no not 'cos I want to be a model but the photography is what interests me (ok the rest of the show too!). The photos always turn out very glam compared to the what you see happening in the shoot and guess what, it's the work of the photo retoucher. Funny how retouchers never get a mention, only photographers do. That's a little unfair isn't it? Those photos only look that awesome 'cos of the combined effort of the photographer and the retoucher. Judith told me that in America (and I don't know how true this is) retouchers often get booked before photographers. Interesting.

Anyway, if I ever get through the books and learn something new and interesting, I'll be sure to put it up =)

twenty nine

It's my birthday today and I am now 29 (so old!!!). One of my friend sent me a lovely message to wish me a happy b'day and to remind me that I have exactly 365 days left til the big three zero. Thanks! Talk about an early countdown =p

Eric took me out last nite for dinner at Darbar in Glebe. We used to love this place but found ourselves a little disappointed with the food this time. Sorry Darbar but I think this is goodbye.

After dinner we went to see The Other Boleyn Girl. I LOVE this movie. What an intense and amazing film. I've never been a fan of Natalie Portman but I must say she is very impressive in her role as Anne Boleyn. You can't help but hate her and then end up feeling sorry for her. Great story and beautiful costumes too.

The celebration (i.e. eating) continued today. Mo suggested Kasbah in Balmain for lunch (well she said brunch but I needed my sleep in hehe). Awesome Moroccan food! We ordered a few things to share from their delish all day breakast menu. This restaurant is highly recommended and I'll definitely be going back to try out the dinner menu.

After we ordered the food, my lovely sister pulled out a present for me. I didn't even see her carrying the big black bag that it came in. I don't know how she hid it. She got me a pair of black converse which I've been wanting ever since I got my new wear casual job. I'm happy. Love my pressie.

Eric ordered me some books that I asked for but they are still making their way over here. I am eagerly waiting for these books. They're being sent to his office and every day he gets an email from me asking "delivery?". C'mon Amazon!!

We all sat around a big pot of sukiyaki watching SYTYCD for dinner. I so have been stuffing myself all weekend!!
Did I mention that my clothes from last year don't really fit me anymore? *sigh*

Happy 29 to me =)
