evil laptop

Remember how my laptop broke and I had to take it to the Apple store? Remember how I got a parking fine on the day I went to pick it up? Well well...I found out today that I also got fined for speeding on that morning I went to drop it off at the store. Can you believe it?!

I've never been fined EVER until now. Twice in one week for my evil laptop. It's so ridiculous I just had to laugh...but no, it's not funny at all. That's also four points gone *sigh*

oh my goodness!! you might want to throw that laptop off a bridge or something. but then again, you'd probably get fined for THAT too!! :) (05 December 2008 02:04)

Ouch! (08 December 2008 22:54)

new website

Howdie all. Nattnee Photography finally has a proper website. Please check out www.nattnee.com and have a poke around.

It's fairly simple and I have yet to populate more images and write the "about"section.

Please let me know your feedback (good and bad) so that I can improve my site. All comments and suggestions welcome.

Absolutely love it! (24 November 2008 11:39)

simple yet elegant website. More photos please!!..Those travel photos are awesome!! (24 November 2008 13:21)

Congrats Natt! (24 November 2008 15:58)

Really nice and simple I like it!! The only thing I miss, "next" and "back" buttons. If I want to go through on all photos in a sectin, I always use those buttons. Clicking everytime on the small photo-icons is not the best way to do it. Hope this helps. Love your photos! (24 November 2008 20:03)

ooh good feedback...thanks...i'll see if i can add those buttons in =) (24 November 2008 20:12)

the martin family

This shoot is a 30th birthday present for Kristy Martin from her lovely sister and bro in law, Nicole and Dan.

Nicole approached me back in August to organise this family portrait session. I say Kristy is definitely in the lucky camp to have her sister come up with a thoughtful gift months in advance. I would know 'cos I'm one of those bad sisters that only remembers a week in advance and occasionally just hand out cash as a present (not even a voucher) =p

I knew most of the session would be candid but I did want one "normal" happy family looking at the camera shot. It wasn't easy to get as you know what kids are like, they never stop moving, even in the arms of their parents =)

As I was playing around with Josh when he told me that it was my turn to be in the tall grass, so I had a go at that just to amuse him. When I got home, I put some water on my arms 'cos I was hot and my goodness they felt like they were on fire! That grass stuff really made my arms itchy. I checked with their uncle Dan and apparently they're all fine =)

The location was close to my place so I went to scout around the area a couple of days earlier. I saw this soft looking grass and went straight to Ikea afterwards to get a little white chair. The photos are quite simple but it's exactly what I had in mind.

This is a little strange, all the autumn leaves in the middle of spring. Don't you love Josh's expression, it's like he's given up and thought "ok fine, whatever, I'll lie here if that's what you want" hehehe.

Auntie Nicole might like this one, I hear Josh is her favourite and I can say that 'cos Tahlie isn't old enough to read this =p

But I hear Tahlie is uncle Dan's fav so that evens it all out =)

One for mum & dad.

Happy 30th Kristy and thanks for bringing your family to spend a couple of hours with me.

busy week!

This week is just crazy busy. I spent all last weekend doing portrait shots for all the students from Tanya Brooks Dance Academy. There were about 180 kids and most have 2-3 costumes to change into. It was a dance rehearsal and as each dance practice run ended, the kids would come for their photographs. Two days shooting and two days sorting and processing over thousands of photos. My legs got a real work out from squatting and standing hehe.

I went back to the 2nd dance rehearsal on Wednesday to do group shots. We brought along a little laptop so that parents and students can check out their photos.

It was a big operation and I couldn't have done it without my two awesome assistants so BIG THANKS to:
Sririn - for doing the admin and coordinating the girls
Eric - for coordinating the girls, PR, sales, food and everything else! You were so incredibly thoughtful =)

I'm off to shoot an event at a farm tomorrow. I know, two farms in three weeks. I'm farm girl! =) Got a family shoot on Sunday too. Crazy week!

P.S. Got my Macbook Pro back. Costed $135 - not in parts, but in parking fines. D'oh!

YAY! Starting to get busy aye! Great to hear it! I can't wait to check out some of your photos!! HURRY UP AND BLOG!! :D (14 November 2008 16:04)

Hopefully something next week. Feels like I don't even have time to breathe right now! (14 November 2008 16:07)

hi nattnee! i was wondering if you have any photoshoot location suggestions for tall grass/barns/farms around Sydney? (14 November 2008 17:19)

Hi Joanna, got an email address?
I don't know of those places. Farms are farms and they're not really in Sydney. If you travel 2 hours or so out, I'm sure you will find a lot of awesome location. Barns. We have barns??? =) (14 November 2008 18:18)

my email address is: joannalee@gmail.com

whereabouts would 2 hrs of travelling equate to? haha, I'm not sure about barns but yeah farms or places with long grass :) is willow glen close ? (15 November 2008 00:51)

I hear you on the breathing part Natt, can you tell me how to deal with it too? Air, air, I need air! (15 November 2008 23:01)

Hey Natt, I am so glad to heat it too:) (17 November 2008 17:31)

poor me, no mbp

I'm at the Apple store right now, standing in front of beautiful iMac (with an annoying glossy screen). Am I shopping? No, I wish. Unfortunately, I'm here 'cos the screen on my MacBook Pro won't turn on anymore. All it wants to do is show me what black looks like. Not happy Jan.

I totally freaked out and rushed to the Apple Store, only to find out that the genius bar is booked out til 2:40pm. Great. Well I hope they're really geniuses 'cos I want my screen fixed today!!

At least I got lunch at planned today which I can't wait 'cos it's been too long since I had my last Ichiban fix. Still, 2.5 hrs to kill. Argh.

2 years already? congrat! (06 November 2008 02:46)

image retouching

Yes I'm still processing the last wedding. I'm processing an entire wedding instead of the usual fav 30 odd images so it is taking a bit longer than my normal speedy posting.

Thought I'd show a before and after post processing images. I'm not sure how far people go in terms of retouching but I really can't stand distracting bits and pieces in the image. Not talking about the usual touch ups of baggy eyes here but I have done things like removing distracting spotlights from the ceiling (obviously they weren't on) and even a whole pram from the background of a shot. It is time consuming but I can't help it as I prefer clean images the way I like it.

I saw the kids playing by the fence and so I ran up to them to get a quick snap. I asked the kids to move along the fence a little bit as they were standing in front of distracting background. I didn't pose them but I love how the little boy just refused to stand with the girls =)

Because this was done pretty quickly, I didn't notice the barb wire running across one of the girl's face. It really didn't look right at all but I didn't want to throw this image away so along with the normal processing to make it a bright and happy snap, I had the annoying barb wire removed. Here is the RAW shot:

I know the wire does add to the framing of the subjects and I do like it but I guess I'm weighing it up against having it cutting across her face which doens't feel so pleasant. What do you think? Prefer the wire gone or not?

Nice shot Natt ! (04 November 2008 16:34)

That's great retouching skills you got there!! :D But that's also such a Nattnee shot too! (04 November 2008 19:43)

Gone baby gone! I like your retouching work, I know where to find you if I need you! (07 November 2008 23:28)
