my 2008

Is it just me or has this year flown by amazingly fast? I woke up (late) this morning and the realisation that it is New Year's Eve today made me feel...I don't know the word to use here. Startled? Some kind of mild panic perhaps. I just don't like getting older.

This year has been an interesting one for me. Several big changes that contribute to what truly is a "new chapter" in life.

I had quit my seven years long career in the corporate world, the only world I knew since I left uni, in search of a more creative alternative. It was a HUGE decision, considering all the uncertainties and not to mention a seriously massive pay cut. Some people called me "ballsy" but I've always wondered if they really meant "stupid".

I ventured into the world of graphic design for an extremely brief period of time. For me, that was middle ground. A career that is creative and still provided a steady income and an office I could go to everyday. I quit that job before my three months probation ended (I did say it was brief!). If I have to give up so much then happiness would be what I should gain and if I wasn't happy then surely it wasn't right.

I was discouraged and toyed with the idea of going back to that corporate life as a fall back or at least as a bridge until I got a better design job. Then I remembered how hard it was for me to make that decision to quit in the first place and I really didn't want to have to go through it again. Now was the time to try whatever I wanted. Even if I failed miserably, at least I would have given it a good go and I would never have to wonder again.

With all that sorted out in my mind, I set out to pursue my dream of becoming a wedding photographer. I've been pretty slow with the whole process and this is only the beginning for me but I'm so glad to be walking down this path. My friend said that I always have that mentality of "the grass is greener on the other side". I can see that now. This career path is NOT easy and it isn't fun all the time. It's a lot of hard work and looking back now, how easy was that corporate life - tapping on the computer everyday and having the money rolling in every month with no worries. No, I don't wanna go back. I love what I'm doing now and I have no regrets, I feel proud of myself for having the guts to try. Now I just gotta keep at it (hopefully not so slowly).

As for other aspects of life, I had a really difficult year and a bit prior to now. I won't go into details but I was going through the toughest time of my life and I'm not being dramatic. It was just awful but it did ease up and I am happy now.

I also bought an apartment with Eric this year. Having our very own place is just awesome!

Well that's the gist of my 2008 =)

Happy New Year everyone. I hope 2009 will bring many wonderful things to all of you.

Happy New Year! (04 January 2009 19:15)

twilight

It's been a very long time since I read a book. I do have a backlog of post processing to do but since it was xmas, I thought I deserved a couple of days break, take my eyes away from the screen, away from Lightroom and Photoshop and read the Twilight saga that I got for xmas. It was such a nice change, to not sit at my computer but on my comfy couch just reading.

I wish I had read the book before seeing the movie though as knowing what the characters look like etc robbed me of my imagination. The combination of supernatural theme and love story is exactly my favourite kind of genre. The last movie that I liked so much was probably the Lakehouse.

I just saw the film again for the 2nd time tonite (at the movies too, that's rare for me) and I'm on book three in the saga now. I'm not supposed to be until I finished all my work but I couldn't help it! The story is so addictive and I just love it. My friend asked if I'm into "that Edward guy" as well. What girl wouldn't be? I'm talking more about the character though not the actor since I'm well (very well) past my teen years!

Anyway, they really don't need anymore advertising, the books are littered everywhere at all the bookstores (and you'd have to be living under a rock if you haven't seen them around!) but seriously go read the books, go watch the movie. Go. Now! =)

evil laptop

Remember how my laptop broke and I had to take it to the Apple store? Remember how I got a parking fine on the day I went to pick it up? Well well...I found out today that I also got fined for speeding on that morning I went to drop it off at the store. Can you believe it?!

I've never been fined EVER until now. Twice in one week for my evil laptop. It's so ridiculous I just had to laugh...but no, it's not funny at all. That's also four points gone *sigh*

Labels:

oh my goodness!! you might want to throw that laptop off a bridge or something. but then again, you'd probably get fined for THAT too!! :) (05 December 2008 02:04)

Ouch! (08 December 2008 22:54)

busy week!

This week is just crazy busy. I spent all last weekend doing portrait shots for all the students from Tanya Brooks Dance Academy. There were about 180 kids and most have 2-3 costumes to change into. It was a dance rehearsal and as each dance practice run ended, the kids would come for their photographs. Two days shooting and two days sorting and processing over thousands of photos. My legs got a real work out from squatting and standing hehe.

I went back to the 2nd dance rehearsal on Wednesday to do group shots. We brought along a little laptop so that parents and students can check out their photos.

It was a big operation and I couldn't have done it without my two awesome assistants so BIG THANKS to:
Sririn - for doing the admin and coordinating the girls
Eric - for coordinating the girls, PR, sales, food and everything else! You were so incredibly thoughtful =)

I'm off to shoot an event at a farm tomorrow. I know, two farms in three weeks. I'm farm girl! =) Got a family shoot on Sunday too. Crazy week!

P.S. Got my Macbook Pro back. Costed $135 - not in parts, but in parking fines. D'oh!

YAY! Starting to get busy aye! Great to hear it! I can't wait to check out some of your photos!! HURRY UP AND BLOG!! :D (14 November 2008 16:04)

Hopefully something next week. Feels like I don't even have time to breathe right now! (14 November 2008 16:07)

hi nattnee! i was wondering if you have any photoshoot location suggestions for tall grass/barns/farms around Sydney? (14 November 2008 17:19)

Hi Joanna, got an email address?
I don't know of those places. Farms are farms and they're not really in Sydney. If you travel 2 hours or so out, I'm sure you will find a lot of awesome location. Barns. We have barns??? =) (14 November 2008 18:18)

my email address is: joannalee@gmail.com

whereabouts would 2 hrs of travelling equate to? haha, I'm not sure about barns but yeah farms or places with long grass :) is willow glen close ? (15 November 2008 00:51)

I hear you on the breathing part Natt, can you tell me how to deal with it too? Air, air, I need air! (15 November 2008 23:01)

Hey Natt, I am so glad to heat it too:) (17 November 2008 17:31)

poor me, no mbp

I'm at the Apple store right now, standing in front of beautiful iMac (with an annoying glossy screen). Am I shopping? No, I wish. Unfortunately, I'm here 'cos the screen on my MacBook Pro won't turn on anymore. All it wants to do is show me what black looks like. Not happy Jan.

I totally freaked out and rushed to the Apple Store, only to find out that the genius bar is booked out til 2:40pm. Great. Well I hope they're really geniuses 'cos I want my screen fixed today!!

At least I got lunch at planned today which I can't wait 'cos it's been too long since I had my last Ichiban fix. Still, 2.5 hrs to kill. Argh.

back from bathurst

I'm sooo tired right now. I didn't even drive at all on our long journey to and from Willow Glen and I still feel like I need to recover.

Lots to be said about the weekend but I'll wait til my brain catches up with me. I think it's still in transit from Bathurst =p

Some random things that got me hopping out of the car on our rocky ride up the long three-gate driveway to the farm house, the day before the wedding.

It was a shame this nice overcast sky wasn't around on the wedding day but at least it wasn't raining either =)

Other snippets of my life:
- Got my tax in on time this year
- Bought our first plant (more like a pot of flowers)
- Made guacamole for the first time

I can't wait to check out your shots from the wedding. :D :D :D (27 October 2008 19:57)

Hi Natt, I can't wait too :) (28 October 2008 21:10)

what a feeling

Warning: This post contains cheesy content.

I was preparing a slideshow to show clients yesterday and thought some music would make a very nice touch. A bunch of inappropriate music in my iTunes but there were a few good tracks thanks to Leona and Mariah.

I clicked play, sat back and watched the photos fade from one into another. By the end of the slideshow, my heart was soaring and my eyes were tearing up. I was just so overcome with joy
I couldn't do anything for a while. Seeing those smiling faces, a mother kissing her son, brides looking like princesses, a groom waiting in the church and everything that is about a wedding just made me so happy.

I'm just so in love with doing this. Sure I'm totally biassed looking at the photos with music but I don't care. I know I wanna keep doing this and get better and better. I am also realising what kind of wedding photographer I want to be. I don't want just pretty pictures. I want emotions and memories. That's what I'll be aiming for in my future work.

I actually cried after telling Eric about all that over the phone. I know that just sounded really stupid but surely I'm not the only one feeling this kind of passion. Bottom line is I love wedding photography.

Ok ok enough with the silly stuff. How about a random photo hey?

These guys are sitting on my window sill in the study. They came with many happy meals. I have eight and Eric has the other eight that we can't find at the moment. Yes that's a LOT of happy meals which Eric *cough* thoroughly enjoyed =p

a funny dream

Kimmie is a camera gear freak. He's got the latest and greatest of Canon cameras and lenses and if Canon had frequent flyer points, he'd be off around the world by now.

We met years ago at work. I had just started getting into photography then and of course we hit it off straight away. Unfortunately he was only there for a few months, getting ready to transfer to Hong Kong.

The last time Kimmie visited would've been around October last year. We caught up for lunch one day and of course talks of camera gear and photography took place. Kimmie was raving about the new 40D. It had been a long time since I had the 20D and I have been wanting new gear. In that same afternoon, I ended up with a brand new 40D in my hand. A bit of an impulsive buy but not one that I regret at all =)

Kimmie is in town again this week. I had lunch with him yesterday. He just bought the 1Ds Mk III and the 85mm f/1.2L. I have been wanting a full frame camera for a while so after lunch yesterday...well of course I didn't go and buy one! I'm not THAT impulsive.

Last night, however, I had a strange dream. I was on a shoot and I was switching between two bodies like I do in real life. I grabbed my 20D, focussed with the AE lock button (my cam is set up that way) and when I went to press the shutter button, it didn't work. I tried and tried and the shutter button just got stuck. I thought hmm maybe now I really have to buy the 5D. I woke up a little confused "what? I have to buy a new camera??". I'm happy to report that my camera is fine btw =)

Kimmie, since you got new awesome gear, if you feel the need to give away some of your older stuff like say a 5D, I'll be more than willing to find a happy home for it. Also if you feel the impulse to buy something, my birthday is coming up...but not before xmas =)

Labels:

Hahaha, yeah I am a bit impulsive aren't I? Just wait till the 5D-mk2 comes out, I'll be doing my best to convince you to pick that one up for sure! (19 August 2008 11:28)

i'm back

Hello world!!! Hooray, I am back online again =)

Love the new place we're in right now. It's great to have your own space.
We have no furniture nor blinds but we did stock up the kitchen and bought a new big ass TV hehe. The hot water only got fixed today as well. I've been showering with a bucket of kettle boiled water mixed with cold tap water. There are still a lot of boxes to go through. I don't know how we managed to rack up so much junk!

As of last Friday, I am a full-fledged wedding tog. Yes, I shot a small and casual wedding at the Royal Botanic Gardens all by my lonesome self. It was a totally different experience compared to second shooting. Anyway,  I did it! I'll be posting photos later when I get around to processing them.

Yesterday, I tagged along to a shoot Gordon Jovic and Jason Cole was doing. No shooting for me, just observing. It was not your usual pretty and lovey-dovey wedding shoot. It was this...

A very sexy shoot indeed. I can't wait to see more. The two photos Gordon posted on his blog look absolutely fantastic! It's pretty cool to be there on the shoot and then see how the photos turn out afterwards.

Bec (the bride) is just gorgeous. She's like a dream to work with. I hope Gordon got some close up of her face 'cos her eyes are amazing. She has no modeling experience but gosh she was so good! The Italian male model, Paolo, is not too shabby either and he seemed to be having a REALLY good time on this shoot. Some people just have the best jobs don't they? =p

YAY! I can't wait to see the photographs you took... Man, how awesome! (12 August 2008 15:10)

we're moving!

Eric and I are finally moving into our very own apartment. Lots to do! The removalist is coming at 7:30am tomorrow! No phone and internet for me for a little while. I'm so tired from packing and moving boxes right now =(

Labels:

I hope the moving process goes smoothly and that no rogue drivers out there crash into your car ;) (06 August 2008 11:16)

you've gotta be kidding me!!!

The door bell rang but it was too early for someone to come home. Delivery perhaps? I opened the door and nobody was there. I heard a voice and soon a blonde lady appeared. She was talking on her mobile phone as she walked up the steps to my front door. She put her phone away and asked "Is that your car?". Yes, why? She just wanted to tell me she smashed into it.

OMG! Tell me it isn't so!!! Last week somebody ripped the side mirror off the car. A few months ago, somebody also smashed into the car and took off. Today it happened again! You've gotta be kidding =(

I asked for her drivers license and she didn't have it with her. She said she has parked the car up the road and her kids are there playing and has to get them back. I was in shock and I just said ok you go get them and come back.

I went to grab the house keys, came out and couldn't find her. I called Eric to deliver the bad news. "Are you serious?!" - unfortunately, yes. I couldn't see the lady and thought I may have done something stupid here and let her run off. However, she did return.

I saw her kids in the car and waved. Why am I waving?! This woman just crashed into our car! Anyway I got all her details and I'm sad this happened but I'm not pissed off. Maybe I'm so used to this car getting wrecked!

Nobody likes accidents but I am thankful that the lady was so honest. Good on her.

I just can't believe the amount of bad luck we've had with this car. My bro gets into a lot of car accidents as well. I am wondering if our house is cursed or something =(

Labels:

Same thing happened to my husband 2 weeks ago, but no one fessed up to it. You are luck that lady contacted you because now you won't loose your no-claim bonus. Look on the bright side, she could have fled the scene and you'd be out of pocket! Cheer up.

p.s Is your car green? Green cars are bad luck! Ours is green, wish I knew that before ;) (31 July 2008 00:09)

Oh...that kinda suck!
But it's good that the lady came and confessed that be wrecked your car. (31 July 2008 06:14)

Maybe after all the accident stuff is sorted you can offer to take photos for her kids?

update for today

I haven't blogged for a while and someone mailed me wondering if I'm still alive so I thought I'd do a quick update. Very original title I know but titles are hard for random updates like this.

So here's what been happening:
  • Right now I'm eating coco pops for lunch
  • Last Saturday I had a wedding shoot with Gordon
  • I've spent the last two days processing those shots while watching One Tree Hill (so I love teen series, sue me. I've been watching from series 1 to series 4 straight in the past few weeks and I have totally killed our download quota)
  • I'm meeting clients today at Gordon's studio hooray! Wish me luck!
  • We've been notified that we can check out our apartment this Saturday! Double hoorays!
  • I didn't win Lotto (again)
  • I was going to wake up at 5:50am yesterday to line up for an iphone. However, I valued my sleep more so I am still iphone-less
  • I've listed my very first ebay item and it's for selling off my gym membership

That's all I can think of for the moment. I shall be posting some photos from last Sat's wedding tomorrow.

Labels:

Yay! LOL.. Glad to know that I pushed you to post an entry.

I'm so excited to see the photographs from last Saturday.

All the best for the meeting at Gordon's studio.

I really want a iPhone, but meh!

LOL @ selling gym membership...

Which gym is the membership for? (23 July 2008 14:28)

emotional

I woke up with puffy eyes this morning. It was unexpected but some time while lying in bed talking to Eric about wedding photography stuff, I broke down. It was probably a combination of not getting enough sleep the day before (I always have trouble getting to sleep before a wedding shoot), getting up early for the groom prep, little things that bothered me during the day, frustrations and what not. It just felt like a long day.

I had a quick browse of the photos before I went to bed. They didn't look any better than the first one. I was in charge of shooting the groom prep by myself. It was an excellent opportunity to do this on my own. I wasn't happy with the results. Why aren't I progressing?

I can't believe I cried. I remember crying about family, friends, relationships. Those are the normal stuff you cry about (for me anyway) but I don't recall crying about something like this. I totally surprised myself with the emotions that poured out.

Eric comforted me. He said that it's only my third wedding, how can I expect to master it already. He said I was impatient and just want this to happen quickly. I do. I gave up a well paid job so that I can make a living from something I love to do. Eric said "Take your time hon. I'm sorry if I gave you pressure about getting a job but I will take care of you. I will take care of us." I was so touched and grateful and cried again.

What if I don't make it? I'm not even asking to be the world's greatest photographer or anything like that. I just want to be a wedding photographer. Just a regular one for now. But yeah...what if I just don't make it? What if it's not my destiny and I didn't know it? Eric said "I believe in you and I don't ever want to hear you use the word defeated". He started telling me all sorts of story about people falling over and getting up again and not giving up. He comforted me til we both got too tired and fell asleep.

Heya Natt!!

Don't be too hard on yourself :) You should have seen the stuff I was shooting when I first started. I should send it to you - hopefully it may give you some encouragement. I think your starting point is alot higher than mine and I believe you will get far. Don't worry k? :) Keep the faith, and persevere. I honestly you are definitely one of the stronger starters that I've met in this industry, and I have met ALOT k? :)

It took me about 2 years to get into the groove and style that you see from me today, so don't feel the pressure. My stuff from even just last year is not the same as it is now. We change and progress steadily so don't stress :)

See you soon, and talk to you then :)

*hugs* (06 July 2008 17:52)

Great encouragement Jenny. Anyways, Natt.. Just know that you aren't alone. We all start somewhere. I must say there are times where I feel like I can just give this up, and pursue a more "stable" 9-5 job.. But man, that wouldn't be me... I wouldn't be happy...
Do what you love doing, because that is where you'll progress.. Just keep at it!
You are your own toughest critic... (07 July 2008 15:26)

It must have been the sleep deprivation and hormones, because the photos you took that day are beautiful. I applaud you for putting your feelings and insecurities out there for the world to see, very brave my dear. :) (19 July 2008 17:18)

just a bunch of stuff

Hmm can't really think of a proper title today 'cos well I'm blogging about a mish mash of stuff.

Eric and I went to see our new apartment at Breakfast Point today. There has been progress on the landscaping around the building and I'm hoping they get it done soon as I cannot wait to move in. Our building is part of what the developers call the Vineyards precinct and so I am expecting grapes and vines. So far there has been just regular plants but today I see posts being put around the place so I'm thinking they are going to plant some vines! Also I'm not a 100% sure but I think I see olive trees as well. We're very excited and seriously can't wait to move in.

Took the 85mm f/1.8 along today just to do some testing to make sure it's a good copy. Eric is going to hate this 'cos he's not a fan of having his face displayed anywhere online but here is a photo of him. This was shot wide open and the photo is straight out of the camera with no sharpening and any other post processing applied.

It's pretty sharp hey? I hear people say how "buttery" and "creamy" this lens is and I must agree. When I was doing my test shots and viewing on the LCD of the camera, I kept thinking it wasn't sharp and there was something wrong because I was only focusing on the eyes and everything that wasn't in focus was just so smooth that I thought the whole image was soft. One thing I don't like about this lens is the purple fringing at the wide end =(

Some other random shots from today:

Last thing I wanted to mention was my second time experience shooting a wedding. This was about a week ago with Gordon Jovic. He invited me along to shoot the bridal prep and the ceremony with him.

I really loved the experience and went home extremely happy that day. Gordon was very kind and was always teaching and pointing things out to me. I felt like I learnt so much and really can't wait to shoot the next wedding and apply the things I learnt and improve myself.

I'm still in the middle of processing the photos from that wedding but who knows if it will appear on this blog as I have to ask for permission first =)

How exciting. Can't wait to see the photos ;)

But hey, I quite like random detail shots of the plants... :D (30 June 2008 20:13)

weekend at the willow glen

Last weekend was just lovely. Mary invited Eric and I to come up and spend some time at Willow Glen - the farm that Mary and her fiance, Craig, bought about a year ago.

The place is about 4 hours from Sydney and is in a town called Trunkey Creek (which I keep thinking it's turn-key-creek for some reason) nearish to Bathurst. I was really worried about the weather as it had been raining all week but luckyily it was sunny most of the time.

Mary was already in Bathurst running some errands when we got there. We picked her up and had lunch at Ellies Cafe (good food btw), walked around town and picked up some groceries for the weekend.

The drive from Bathurst to Willow Glen is really really beautiful. I wish I could have stopped along the way and took pictures but I didn't want to delay us getting there. The only stop we made was at Trunkey Creek.

Trunkey Creek is a tiny town with about 50 people. Lots of old broken down sheds and stuff which are all very cool for photos but we were only there for a toilet break. Mary called me a princess for squirming at the rusty loo (I probably wouldn't have gone at all had it not been for my near busting bladder).

We had to drive through other farms to get to Willow Glen. The road was filled with rocks and quartz and we didn't have a 4WD so Eric had to drive in full granny mode. We finally arrived some long time later and I was simply just amazed at the vastness of their farm.

As soon as I got out of the car, I grabbed my camera. There was not much time before the sun sets and I wanted to wander around taking pics. Something totally surprising happened. The crazy cows ran up to the car, mooing very loudly. I was like what is this a stampede?? I mean this can't be normal cow behaviour!

I was totally freaking out. Cows are huge and there were so many of them, all surrounding us! If they had guns they'd probabaly point them at us and say "put your hands up and give us some hay!" Mary dispersed them and reassured us that there was nothing to be afraid of. We, ok me, looked like such a clueless city slicker. How embarrassing! =p

This guy (or gal - i have no idea) is the loudest mooer of the lot.

Thistles can be found everywhere on the property. Most of them are dead but if you look around you can find purple ones here and there.

The sun soon disappeared. We sat around the fireplace, chatting and nibbling on cheese and pate. Mary and Craig's place is just so cosy. I can see why they hike up there so often.

This lamp, its twin in the other corner of the room, combined with the fireplace really provides a nice cosy atmostphere. Aren't those moose candle holders cute?

Craig finally arrived at around 9pm. We had lamb and roast vegies for dinner - thank you Mary.
We talked a bit about the photo session tomorrow and Craig didn't seem so keen hahaha. He is a blokey bloke who can spend his time doing more productive things than posing for photos haha. We did get engagement photos though - watch the next post =)

Yes this weekend was not just about visiting Willow Glen. I have offered to do wedding photography for Mary and Craig and took this opportunity to do an e-session. Stay tuned for those photos but here is a shot of Mary's Canadian diamond engagement ring.

The next morning, Mary and Craig took us for a drive around their property. As soon as Craig took the 4WD out of their shed, the crazy cows came running down the hill! They stopped in front of us and mooed!

Everyone getting ready to go for a drive. Check Mary out. Isn't she so cute? She is a Canadian who has totally embraced the Aussie culture in every way including the outback jacket and hat and all =)

The crazy cows.

Didn't get to shoot at this spot but look how awesome it is. Craig has tied a tyre swing on the tree branch.

If you know the Aussie history you'd know that Bathurst is where the gold rush took place. So? We went gold panning on the farm! Apparently the previous owner did find some gold and Mary and Craig's very cool plan is to find some gold on their very own farm to make their wedding bands!

Eric and I also joined in the gold panning fun. I was really hoping Eric would find something. That would have been very exciting. Nobody found any gold but I hope Mary and Craig will keep digging and hope they will find something.

Now here is probably one of the most exciting part of the entire weekend for me. Near the gold panning spot was this old rusty bed frame and wooden bits of what used to be a room. A long time ago the previous owner and his kid used to camp out in this shed or room when they did their own gold panning. We spent heaps of time and had so much fun shooting in this spot. Now this is gold!!!

While the boys were still panning, I got Mary to do some poses around the bed.

The sun was so strong at the time as can be seen in the above few photos. Turning Mary to one side meant half her face weren't lit. Reflector would be awesome here but I didn't have any. Mary and I left the boys to go find some a reflector of some sort and to prepare some lunch.

Mary prepared lightly toasted ham and chili brie sandwiches.

Lots of stuff in the shed but nothing was really an ideal reflector then I remembered that Eric has a sunshade for the car.

After lunch, we took up shooting at the rusty bed again. Eric was my lovely assistant holding the "reflector". I really love this pic of Mary. She's so cute in this shot!

Of course, after going to all the trouble of find some sort of a reflector. The clouds came over and I didn't need it anymore. I think Eric was thankful for that hehehe.

I did some shots of Mary and Craig here at the rusty bed (see next post). I think it had been only 10 minutes and Craig was already in pain. "Surely we must be done already?" he said hahah.

We eventually let Craig go and have his own fun. Mary offered to take a pic of me and Eric in the same spot which is nice 'cos we don't always get a pic of us! (Yep, sneak peek to the e-session)

My assistant in his Where's Wally jumper.

Then they both took up the cameras and I was put in front of the lens! Now that's not right! While the three of us were having fun with the cameras, you'll never guess what Craig was up to. Remember I said we left him to his own fun? He was testing out his brand new rifle!

One of the hardest thing about taking photos at this place was the fact that you can't just kneel or lie down anywhere. There are things to look out for on the ground everywhere. We're talking kangaroo droppings, cow dungs and thistles! The thistles hurt!

Mary and Craig drove us back to the house where we did some more e-session (and this will be awesome) before Eric and I start heading back home.

Some random stuff along the way out of Willow Glen.

Thank you Mary and Craig for inviting us up to visit your farm. Eric and I had a very enjoyable time and we'll see you up there again in Ocotober for your wedding!!!

Lastly, this is another sneak peek of the engagement session. Mary took this pic for us after I was done photographing them with the cows.

Stay tuned for the engagement shoot!

Oh dear. When was the last time you hit the gym? Mine was probably 2-3 months ago. Today I decided to go and I only managed 27 minutes worth of gym. Three extra minutes and I could've called it half an hour and sound that much better but not today.

While 27 minutes doesn't sound like it was even worth getting into the car and driving to the gym but it's better than doing zero minutes right? It's all about getting into a routine and making it a habit of going to the gym. So I'm marking today the start of my new gym cycle! I know my friends will say "yeah we've heard that before" but hey this just means I don't give up trying =p

Here are some of my health and fitness quirks:
- New regular gym cycles should always start on a Monday.
- An even more auspicious day to start is a Monday that is the first of the month.
- Gymming and healthy food goes hand in hand.
- Vice versa, I eat junk and lots of carbs when not gymming at all.

One of my friends said he lost about 4kgs after shooting two weddings. Personally I think his scale may have been broken but getting to shoot wedding AND lose weight? Sounds like a dream hehehe. Anyway, if I remember, I'll report back after three months. Let's just hope I can keep it up until then.

twenty nine

It's my birthday today and I am now 29 (so old!!!). One of my friend sent me a lovely message to wish me a happy b'day and to remind me that I have exactly 365 days left til the big three zero. Thanks! Talk about an early countdown =p

Eric took me out last nite for dinner at Darbar in Glebe. We used to love this place but found ourselves a little disappointed with the food this time. Sorry Darbar but I think this is goodbye.

After dinner we went to see The Other Boleyn Girl. I LOVE this movie. What an intense and amazing film. I've never been a fan of Natalie Portman but I must say she is very impressive in her role as Anne Boleyn. You can't help but hate her and then end up feeling sorry for her. Great story and beautiful costumes too.

The celebration (i.e. eating) continued today. Mo suggested Kasbah in Balmain for lunch (well she said brunch but I needed my sleep in hehe). Awesome Moroccan food! We ordered a few things to share from their delish all day breakast menu. This restaurant is highly recommended and I'll definitely be going back to try out the dinner menu.

After we ordered the food, my lovely sister pulled out a present for me. I didn't even see her carrying the big black bag that it came in. I don't know how she hid it. She got me a pair of black converse which I've been wanting ever since I got my new wear casual job. I'm happy. Love my pressie.

Eric ordered me some books that I asked for but they are still making their way over here. I am eagerly waiting for these books. They're being sent to his office and every day he gets an email from me asking "delivery?". C'mon Amazon!!

We all sat around a big pot of sukiyaki watching SYTYCD for dinner. I so have been stuffing myself all weekend!!
Did I mention that my clothes from last year don't really fit me anymore? *sigh*

Happy 29 to me =)
